Irish Marriage Records

Civil registration of all births, marriages and deaths only started in Ireland in 1864. At the beginning, not all events were registered as was required. To perform a five year search of the records, we need the following information - Surname, Forename, Townland/County and approximate year of marriage. Having the spouses full name is important, but not essential, for a successful search.

Search for Marriage Form

When the search is successful, the photocopy/certificate of the record will show the Date and Place of Marriage, Names of the Groom and Bride, Their Current Addresses and The Name and Occupation of their Fathers.

Genealogy Tip #1: With the correct marriage record, you will know the name and occupation of their fathers. You can now search for the grooms and/or brides birth record that shows this father.

Genealogy Tip #2: When you know the respective fathers names and their occupations, you will be able to search for each of their marriage records.

Genealogy Tip #3: Sometimes the witnesses to the marriage may be a brother or sister of the bride or groom. You can search for their birth records also.

Genealogy Tip #4: If you are unsure of the spelling of a townland, or you want to know where the townland is, use the Irish Placename Search facility.
