The 1901 Census returns recorded for each household: Name, Relationship to Head of Household,
Religion,
Literacy,
Occupation,
Age,
Marital Status, County of Birth or Country of Birth,
Ability to speak English or Irish.
Members of the family not present when the census was taken, are not given. In 1911, the same information was recorded as well as the following: married women were required to state the number of years they had been married, the number of children born alive, and the number of children still living.
Genealogy Tip #1: With the correct census return, you can estimate the year that the parents married from the age of the eldest child. Then you can search for the parents marriage record.
Genealogy Tip #2: The ages given on the census returns for adults and children can help you in finding their birth records.
